Enthusiast Kit for 35mm and 120 Film Scanning Includes:

  • Basic Riser MK3: With a solid steel base, anodized aluminum central column, and design cues from our Pro Riser MK3, our new Basic Riser MK3 boasts a massive upgrade over our Basic Riser MK2. This is ideal for users looking to scan 35mm and 120 with nearly any camera and macro combination and even 4x5 with up to a 90mm macro lens.

  • Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2: Using shared parts and processes from our Pro Film Carrier 35, this all-new Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2 offers superior film flatness to its predecessor and is capable of scanning all 35mm film formats including half frame, full frame (standard 35mm), and panoramic sizes in a single capture. Also works with Minox, 110, APS, and 126 formats (sold separately). Can scan full rolls of 35mm film in 2 minutes or less and works with cut strips as short as 3 frames.

  • 4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 (99 CRI) or Light Source Mini: Select from two of our most popular light sources specifically designed for scanning photographic film. Compact and bright, these are great light pads for both color and black and white film. See additional details lower on this page.

  • Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2 Stabilizing Mask: This accessory holds the Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2 firmly to our light source and helps mask extraneous light when scanning and ensures a confident workflow.

  • Inline Power Switch f/ 4x5 Light Source Basic or Light Source Mini: This accessory allows you to leave your light source plugged in and turn the light on and off via a toggle switch, preventing accidental movement of the light.

New to the process of scanning film with a digital camera? Negative Supply is here to help!

Our goal is for you to spend more time making photographs, not scanning them, and with our Enthusiast Plus Kit for 35mm, 120, and 4x5 Film Scanning you can do just that!

Which Light Source is right for you?

4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 - 99 CRI - The 4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 was developed to accurately scan 35mm up to 4x5. The 99 CRI light source is highly color accurate and consistent. It’s compatible with all Negative Supply adapter plates and accessories so you don’t ever need to worry about your accessories not being backwards compatible with our tools.

Light Source Mini 97 CRI - Our most advanced light source to date is also tied for the brightest light source we make with the 4x5 Light Source Pro! The Light Source Mini is 2 full stops brighter than our Light Source Basic MK2 and effectively as color accurate (*see below). This light source is meant to scan 35mm and 120 film up to 6x9 which is the maximum image area of our 120 film carriers.

After extensive testing we’ve determined the following:

4x5 Light Source Basic MK2 99 CRI: Scored a 98.3 for TLCI and 99.0 CRI*

Light Source Mini 97 CRI: Scored a 98.0 for TLCI and 97.3 CRI

That means that scans from either of these light sources will show effectively no difference even in tricky color scenes. If you’re scanning 35mm and 120 film our Light Source Mini 97 CRI is absolutely the right choice for you.
