The Negative Supply 4x5 Light Source Pro is the next in our second generation of light sources and directly replaces our outgoing 5x7 Light Source Pro.

Designed with 35mm, 120 and 4x5 film in mind, the 4x5 Light Source Pro is created for those who demand a solid, reliable, and bright light source with a high degree of color accuracy without compromise. This light delivers.

Previously, if you were using our 5x7 Light Source Pro in combination with our Pro Mount MK2 you’d find that the Pro Mount MK2 rested directly on the corners of the light source. On our new 4x5 Light Source Pro, the Pro Mount MK2 will rest over the light and not come in contact. This requires higher feet for your Pro Mount MK2. We have these available here.

The 4x5 Light Source Pro is the next of our latest generation of light sources. This is the follow-up to our very popular 5x7 Light Source Pro. With a more compact design while remaining dedicated to users who are scanning 35mm, 120 and 4x5 film, this light is designed with the same build quality you’ve come to expect from our “Pro” line of tools. Boasting both 97 CRI and 99 CRI variants, the 4x5 Light Source Pro is ideal for nearly any user, even those scanning the most color rich and detailed film imaginable.

Size comparison of our outgoing 5x7 Light Source Pro vs all-new 4x5 Light Source Pro. This new model is more efficiently built and sized, offering comparable brightness, improved light evenness, and a more robust construction at a significantly lower price. You’ll want to use focal lengths longer than 90mm for the correct angle of view to prevent light fall off on the edges.

Recently there has been a lot of discussion about how CRI and TCLI should be used to compare light sources for film scanning purposes. We’ll break it down for you!

CRI is a metric used to tell us how a light source renders color based on human perception. What this does not tell us is how this light will render on film or in our case, a digital camera. The TCLI value will give us a more complete view of color accuracy and more directly relates to film scanning.

CRI is often the metric given when comparing light sources in our industry, though TCLI is perhaps more critical.

The TLCI value is averaged from the 24 colors from the MacBeth Color Checker Chart with the maximum value of 100 being the best. Light sources that score a 90 or higher are often seen as high quality light sources that will cut down on post production time.

After extensive testing by our R&D team the following statistics are available:

99 CRI Model: Scored a 99.0 for TCLI and 99.2 CRI

97 CRI Model: Scored a 98.0 for TCLI and 97.3 CRI

The 4x5 Light Source Pro comes with two options 97 CRI and 99 CRI. Both of these options are exceedingly color accurate with the 99 CRI option being as close to perfect color reproduction possible. The 97 CRI light source is ideal for black and white, C41 and Slide film with high color accuracy while the 99 CRI light source is made for the most discerning user that demands the best without exception.

Features:
